| The
Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud was manufactured by Rolls-Royce from April
1955 until March 1966 as a replacement for the Silver Dawn and was,
in turn, replaced by the Silver Shadow. The chassis was a very rigid
affair and consisted of a simple welded steel box section. The car
measured 5.38 m in length and was 1.90 m wide and had an overall
weight of almost 2 tons. The whole thing was pulled along by a 4.9
litre six-cylinder engine coupled to a four-speed automatic gearbox.
The car had servo-assisted brakes with hydraulic drums and the suspension
was independent coils at the front and semi-elliptic springs at
the rear. In 1959 the Silver Cloud was replaced with The Silver
Cloud II.
